My Approach
My approach is informed by a reverence for research and a life-long passion for understanding the childhood experience.
Since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by the childhood experience.
I am also driven by a need to know the facts — to observe, research, and immerse myself in the world of child development in order to find tools and strategies that actually work.
Here is what I know…
Education is a vehicle for a better life.
Education opens doors to opportunity— in our world and in our own minds. Learning to learn unfolds endless growth: following curiosity in meaningful ways, thinking critically, and communicating our ideas. Research like mine backs this up.
The more we learn about childhood development, the more we’re understanding what really matters in education and caregiving. The methods I help implement are based on best practices in childhood development and adult learning. I’m committed to offering proven strategies for improving school/home experiences and long-term outcomes for kids — no matter where they come from or what they struggle with.
Children who do well in school are better able to…
Resolve conflicts with others
Work collaboratively
Initiate a task and stick with it
Develop healthy relationships
Consistently participate in activities/responsibilities
Demonstrate empathy
Kids (and adults) need to feel seen, heard, understood, and safe in order to learn.
Blind spots and biases are a part of being human. My work asks educators, program administrators, and parents to be curious about their preconceived notions of how young people learn and flourish.
The mainstream educational system was built with a narrow idea of what learning looks like. This one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for everyone. I help nonprofits, schools, government agencies, teachers, and families build accessible experiences for all types of young people — especially those who are most vulnerable to falling through the cracks.
We are all doing the best we can. But with support, we can do better.
Let’s chat about this.
