HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION : Navigating Care Between The Family & The Classroom

When it comes to relating to school personnel and advocating on behalf of youth with complex needs, many families feel lost. Most caregivers don’t know their responsibilities when it comes to interfacing with schools and so they wait for teachers or social workers to tell them what to do. Yet, many social workers and teachers are similarly unclear on who should be doing what.

Through a combination of lecture, discussion, and experiential practices, you will learn:

  • Some of the biggest challenges affecting foster and adoptive youth in schools

  • The role of teachers, school administrators and professional service providers

  • Proactive strategies for coordinating more effectively between home and school

  • What to advocate for and how to do it most effectively

  • How to troubleshoot issues with communication, IEP’s and logistics

This course will give you everything you need to know (but may have been afraid to ask) about school and educating kids in care.

Participants will also receive a 1/2 hour private consultation.
